ASE - Meet the Principal
About Donna Whisonant
I began my career as a fourth-grade educator with the Fort Bend ISD family in 1989. I was born in Bedworth, a small English town in the UK, and emigrated with my family to Marietta, Georgia at the age of four. During that time, my father joined the Army to provide for his family and give us a better education. I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching, followed by my Master of Education from the University of Houston. I was proudly named Teacher of the Year in 1999, and then later honored as the District’s Elementary Principal of the year in 2016. I also served as the English Language Arts Department Chair while teaching at Fort Settlement Middle School. I am a life-long learner and continue my education by participating in administrative professional learning opportunities for school improvement while fulfilling my vision of shaping the minds of children.
Serving in administration for the past 12 years at Austin Parkway Elementary led me to my dream of opening a brand new campus. This is my third year to serve at Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary. As an educator, I strive for success and firmly believe that all students have the capacity to learn when they are taught in a positive and caring environment. I believe in developing leaders while encouraging them to become independent learners of the 21st Century.
I have one 16-year-old daughter, two dogs, and two cats. In my spare time, I love participating in Ironman sports events.

Message from the Principal
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. Anne Sullivan is now in its 8th successful year and we are dedicated to providing the very best elementary education to all our students, Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. Throughout our proud 8-year history, Sullivan has provided a welcoming, trustworthy school, where students are intellectually ambitious, engaged, and curious about the world in which they live. Our students are compassionate, creative, and filled with desire to meet new challenges and pursue creative paths to solutions.
We are all very excited about this school year, where classrooms once again will be full of activities and ideas that challenge and inspire our students.
Our remarkable and caring teachers work hard to create an exceptional learning environment for our students. Throughout the year, exciting events are happening in our classrooms and on our campus! We encourage you and hope you will become involved by joining our hard working, successful, and most effective PTA, by volunteering at our school activities, further affording you the opportunity to take an active role in your child’s education.
Please remember that while Sullivan has the best teachers, YOU are the ultimate gift for your child. YOU are your child’s most important teacher and I strongly encourage you to spend time with your child. The elementary years pass by so quickly, but they are among the most important and fundamental years of your child’s life. It is my heartfelt desire to maintain the focus on increasing student achievement and doing whatever it takes to help ALL our students become successful and simply enjoy coming to school every day. I firmly believe that learning should be fun and that an elementary school should pave the way for a lifetime of learning.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any member of my team if we can assist you in any way; after all, we are here to help you and, most importantly, we are here to help your child become the most successful person ever! Thank you all for choosing Anne Sullivan Elementary School and for loaning your children to us, as we help them explore the future. We promise to return them to you as proud graduates of the fifth grade.
